The Process
Here is a quick overview of the process from start to finish.. What do I actually get from my investment and how does it all work?
The scheduling process..
When you are ready to schedule your photography session, You can contact me via email. Include your portrait requirements, preferred date, amount of people, ages, etc. I can then set up a date and time according to your preference within a week or up to one year in advance. Once the date and time is set we can chat on the phone or via email and go over the details, your vision of the session, any questions you may have, as well as what to expect, what to wear, etc.
Calgary wedding photographer packages require a 50% deposit at time of booking and portrait sessions do not require a deposit but it is recommended to secure your date.
A signed contract is also required before any services will be provided.
The Session..
I shoot on location and that might be in the comfort of your home, office, a park, grassy field or a funky urban spot. The location will depend on your preferences and type of shoot. I prefer to shoot in natural light so outdoors is always best.
A typical session will be at a chosen location, walking about, getting to know you and getting to know your child by simply talking, playing and being silly with them. My goal is to search out genuine expression and candid moments to create stunning images.
The number one rule for our sessions is that kids should be kids. That means parents don't feel any pressure to have your child sit and smile on cue. Let them run around, be goofy and play with each other. Don't worry when the time is right we'll still get the more traditional posed shots as well.
Happy kids + relaxed parents = stunning portraits!
Post Production..
Once the session is complete, my creative process continues as I hand pick each of the final images for your online gallery. After narrowing it down to the very best images, I retouch and edit each individually, finding color in the most unexpected places and turning your photographs into unique pieces of art. The editing process takes approximately two weeks.
Once the images are edited I will upload them to your private online gallery. You will then have access to all your images for review. From the online gallery you will be able to choose your favorite images for the CD or prints.
Delivery..
If you've purchased a CD with all the files, delivery time is aprox. 2-3 days. The CD will include all print ready files (300 dpi) and web ready files (72 dpi). For prints and other products may take 2-4 weeks to arrive.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should we wear?
- Colours (earth tones, blacks and bright solid colours photograph great)
- Throw in some texture fun accessories, or a fun knitted scarf or hat.
What not to wear..
- Clothing with logos, or graphic on the front.
- Dirty Jeans or sneakers
- Anything that makes you feel uncomfortable
- Florescent, shiny fabrics or neon colors are not recommended.
Great hair and makeup will do all the difference in your photograph. Also coordinating colors is always best (not everyone matching), wear a mixture of solid colors with different light and dark hues. Make sure the colors blend well with the others. Try to stay away from wearing all white as the different white tones may create exposure challenges. Here's a great article I wrote a little while back on what to wear
How do I get the shots that I want?
By providing me a list of a few shots that you want, you will be assured that I will make sure and get these shots before the shoot is over.
What about the weather?
Weather is really not a problem unless it is actively snowing or raining. Actually, cloudy conditions are preferred. If the weather makes outdoor shots impossible we may need to reshedule or find an indoor location for the shoot. I always prefer shooting in natural light if at all possible.
And I'm always up for braving the cold.. Bundle up and we'll have a snowball fight if we have too to stay warm :-)
Can I bring my dog?
Pictures with dogs are great, but can be tricky because they (obviously) like to move. If we are doing the photo shoot at a place other than your backyard, your dog will want to explore and not sit for pictures. The best shots to do with dogs are ones where we are in your own backyard and you or your family are interacting with the dog rather than looking at the camera. These shots are fun, playful and casual. If we are shooting away from home and your dog is calm and well trained, sure bring your dog, otherwise, its best to keep him home. Also, make sure and bring a leash and a bag!
How long do the photography sessions last?
It depends on what session you choose. A mini session is 30 minutes and a full session is 1 hour to 1.5 hours long.
Can there be props or clothing changes?
Of course! If there are items that you would like to have in the photos we can always include them. We also encourage you to have clothing changes. Just know, that the more prop placement and clothing changes that occur, will take up your photo-op time.
Can you touch up scars, boo boos and acne marks?
Yes and this service is included and my clients love it!
What type of portrait sessions do you do?
Maternity, Newborn, Children, Teens, Seniors, Family, Engagement, Fashion, Modelling, headshots, pets and just about anything that'll fit in the allotted time.
What size can I print the images?
The Digital Negatives on your CD are high-resolution images so you can pretty much go as big as you want.
Is photography your profession?
No it's not.. Photography is a hobby that has turned into a very busy part time business. I enjoy photography as it takes me away from the stress of the real world at times. Plus, I enjoy meeting and working with new people. Perhaps one day it will become a career, but for now, I'm just havin fun with it.
Copyright?
All original and retouched images are the sole property of Mathieu Young. I reserve the right to use any image in any form. The edited pictures that you will receive on CD come with a non-exclusive copyright release. This allows you to print & share the photographs at will but cannot be edited or altered. please see photography contract for more info.
Models must sign a model release form and accompanied by a parent or guardian if under 18 years of age.
What methods of payment do you accept?
cash, cheque, email money transfer or paypal (visa/Mastercard) only.
About the Mini Session
Mini sessions are a great for busy families who just want a few great shots to update their picture wall, mark a milestone in your childrens life, maternity photos, head shots for a portfolio or there's even time for engagement photos.
What is a Mini Session?
A mini session is a shortened version of my regular family portrait photography session, without all the bells and whistles. Basically it allows us to get a few great family shots of your entire family and then spend a little time getting breakout shots of just the kids, a few individual shots and perhaps a few candids. It is ideal for families who simply want some updated family shots for their holiday cards, Facebook, or frames. It is not ideal for those seeking lots of great candids or the in-between-the-moment shots, those who want outfit changes or a wide range of background looks. With mini sessions, there simply is not enough time to capture a great deal of emotional images inside of 30 minutes – you really need a full hour plus for that. Mini sessions move quickly so it’s imperative you arrive a few minutes early (5-10) so that you and your family are ready to go.
Are mini sessions only for family portraits?
The most common is a family mini but you can also book your mini session for couples, engagement, maternity, seniors, children, fashion, modelling or corporate head shots.
What is the max number of people we can have for a Mini Session?
You can have up to 5 people max. {Sorry, no pets during the mini sessions, but four legged family fur balls are welcome during regular sessions.} The cost is $15 per additional person and if you have 8 or more people, it's recommended to book a full portrait session which are 1 hour+.
Will you provide props for our shoot, or can we bring them?
For mini sessions I wont be able to provide any props (chairs, bubbles, lollipops, balloons, etc.) however you are more then welcome to bring any of these items if you want to incorporate them.
I have more questions. How should I reach you?
Just email me here and I’ll be happy to answer your questions as quickly as possible. Note* We currently offer limited availability for mini sessions at this time.. Contact us for up coming dates or visit our facebook fan page for updates.
